What age is a Maxi-Cosi swivel car seat for?
The Maxi-Cosi swivel car seat range covers a wide age range, depending on whether you choose an infant-only or multi-age seat.
Maxi-Cosi offers swivel seats to cover different stages of your child's life:
-
Infant Swivel Seats (Pebble 360): These i-Size seats are suitable from birth up to approximately 15 months (or 87 cm). They must be used with the specific Maxi-Cosi car seat swivel base (FamilyFix 360) and are often removable for use on a pram chassis.
-
Multi-Age Swivel Seats (Mica 360): These seats are suitable from birth up to approximately 4 years old (or 105 cm). These seats are permanently attached to their own integrated base and remain in the car. They are designed for extended rearward-facing use.
Always check the product label, which indicates the suitable height range for your specific Maxi-Cosi swivel car seat model.
When should you remove a newborn insert from a Maxi-Cosi car seat?
You should take the newborn insert out of your Maxi Cosi rotating car seat when your baby no longer fits comfortably or safely within it.
The purpose of the insert is to provide a better fit, head support, and a flatter lie for small newborns:
-
Check the Fit: The key indicator is the fit of the harness. The insert should be removed when the baby's shoulders are pushed up by the insert, or when the harness straps are no longer positioned correctly at or slightly below shoulder level.
-
Instruction Guidelines: Your specific car seat manual will provide clear height or weight guidelines for when the insert must be removed. This usually happens around 60 cm or 67 cm in height, depending on the model.
-
Safety First: Removing the insert too early will create excess space and compromise the harness fit. Removing it too late will cause discomfort and improper harness positioning, which is unsafe. Follow the guide in the manual to ensure optimal safety.
How to remove a Maxi-Cosi car seat from the base?
Removing a modular Maxi-Cosi rotating car seat (like the Pebble 360) from its swivel base requires pressing a safety release button on the shell.
This applies only to infant swivel seats (0-15 months) that can be detached from the in-car base:
-
Locate the Release Handle/Button: This is usually a clearly marked lever or button found at the back of the car seat shell (often near the handle or where the shell meets the base).
-
Pull and Lift: While simultaneously pulling or squeezing the release handle, lift the car seat shell straight up off the Maxi-Cosi car seat swivel base.
-
Click onto Pram: The same release points are often used to attach the car seat to your pushchair adaptors.
The multi-age seats (like the Mica) are permanently fixed to their base and are not designed to be removed.
